Welcome to the Island

That first couple days on the Island have been fantastic. It is beautiful and stunning location and a wonderful group of people. My tent has proven to be relatively dry after yesterday's wind and rain, which eventually cleared to blue skies and sunshine. A lone humpback was sighted across the bight and several Dall's porpoise have been observed. A group of resident orcas were heard on the hydrophone from A clan. They were seen in the mist traveling to the south.

When no cetaceans or salmon fishermen are around to watch, the pair of bald eagles and their nest gives something to look at. An evening walk on the rocky shore was a lovely way to end the day and a visit from a curious seal made for a great ending.

Today I am on the hunt for two large, flat rocks for the base for the new wood stove that is to be installed in the lab. Looking forward to the warmth!
