Today was spent on shore in the lab and it appeared like it would be a quiet day. But the humpback whales decided we needed to keep busy so they keep swim feet from shore, right beneath the lab. We were able to photo ID the whales by the pattern on the underside of their flukes. Misty decided to visit us several times and a pair of humpback whales made a synchronous pass. Several Dall's porpoise also came to visit and the puffing breaths echoed over the quiet, still waters of the bay. During the later afternoon a fin whale was also sighted at rest, it towering blows rising far above it.
